The word Yoga is most popular now a days in whole world. In Sanskrit, Yoga is called as Yog, which is the correct pronunciation. The name Yoga is given by Western practitioners when Yog reached to western countries. In western countries and other countries in the world considers it as a only exercise to stay fitt. Even in India, modern Indians don't know what is the meaning of yog and they also consider it just an excercise to live a healthy life.
Practicing Yog regularly, one can achieve the physical as well as Spirituality. Main objective of Yog is to achieve Spiritual upliftment. As we know that a healthy body have a healthy mind. Similarly, Yog started to make body healthy and automatically mind becomes healthy. A healthy mind brings Spritual development in that person.
In ancient text, It is defined as addition of something is called Yog and Separation of Something are called Viyog. The Spritual meaning of Yog is that the soul of living creatures alway want to get add with supreme soul. Another meaning of Yog is to wake up inactive Kundalin and to get add into Shashrar Chakra to see Brahma Darshan.
There is various kind of Yog in Hindu text and all describes well. But modern Indians are not aware of it. They only know that YOG means Pranayam (also known as breathing excercise), Asanas ( Various posture), Dhyan ( Meditation). In Shri Madd Bhagwat Gita, there is 18 lessons and each and every lesson teaches a different kind of YOG. Title of Some of lessons are Sankhya Yog which is also known as Gyan Yog, Karm sanyash yog, Akshar Brahma yog, Bhakti yog etc. In other text also, various kind of Yog are mentioned like Naadanushandhan Yog, Mantra Yog and Tantra Yog.
Peoples only know about Ashtang Yog or Hath Yog. Ashtang Yog is not initiated by Patanjali but it is complied by Patanjali in later stage. In ashtang yog means eight parts of Yog is a works of compilation by Maharishi Patanjali. Eight part of Yog are Yam, Niyam, Asan, Pranayam, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyan and Samadhi. There is also sub part of Ashtang Yog.
